CHASE YOUR DREAMS: Sharon Robertson launches her original designs here in Port Douglas

The lure of the idyllic tropical lifestyle, its accessibility and small town feel, were the major reasons Sharon Robertson relocated from Broome to Port Douglas where she has opened Rainsong Designs, situated on 6/12 Grant Street next to Splish Splash.

Striving to differentiate herself, she offers an eclectic fusion of clothing, accessories and gifts. Her range of clothing is made in Bali and from next month she will be displaying her new hand-blocked printed cotton range from India.

“I choose natural fibres with cottons and rayons for my designs which are suitable for this climate. My clothing is predominantly casual, but can also be worn at the beach, or for most other occasions,” said Sharon.

Based in Broome for the past 10 years, she moved last year to Port Douglas to set up Rainsong Designs, but has retained her shop in Western Australia.

With a dream to have her own design, she started out in mass market production after completing a Diploma in Fashion Design, before creating a kids’ label followed by her women’s designs.

Rainsong Designs not only features clothing. She has a wide range of accessories, including wooden sunglasses, silver jewellery, hand-woven bags, leather shoes, handmade gift cards, enamel kitchen ware, among other unique items.

“I am looking forward to meeting the locals and the many tourists who visit the town on an annual basis. I am also excited about talking about my designs and style of clothing,” she said.
