Crocs earn hard-fought win over Hawks

AFL CAIRNS
- Ports best is yet to come: Chapple
PORT Douglas held on for a hard fought 10-point win over a plucky Manunda on Saturday night.
The Crocs were pushed all the way in the AFL Cairns grand final rematch but kept their unbeaten start to the season in tact with a 9.13 (67) to 8.9 (57) win.
The Hawks came out firing in the twilight fixture booting 4.4 to 2.0 in the opening term.
The Crocs started to gain some ascendancy in the second term with consecutive goals to Kye Chapple (three) and Adam Gross, but a Hawks major just before the half time-siren saw them pinch a four-point lead at the main break.
An entertaining arm-wrestle followed, but the influence of Crocs vice-captain Mitch Bohm, Skip Gribbon, Jack Dickson, Brett Meredith, Brett Mckeown and Lachlan Petch was enough for the reigning champs to record their third win of the year.
William Aisi, Nathan Weiss and Alexander Carter were dominant for the Hawks, who now sit fourth on the table with a 2-2 record.
Talented youngster Daniel Davidson, son of Port Douglas life member and dual league medalist Rod Davidson, also impressed on debut for the Crocs.
