MACROSSAN Street in Port Douglas will be closed for four hours tomorrow as the region stops to pay tribute to our fallen heroes on Anzac Day.

The Douglas Shire had more than 220 soldiers enlisted in the First World War and they will be honoured across services in Mossman, Port Douglas and Cow Bay tomorrow, which marks 100 years since the end of World War One.

“We have marches, services and free breakfasts that I encourage all Douglas Shire residents get involved in to pay their respects to our brave soldiers,” said Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu this week.


Macrossan Street will be closed between Grant Street and Wharf Street between 8am and 12pm for services and the annual Anzac Day March.

More than 4000 turned out across the Shire last year to pay their respects.

The Central Hotel will again feature its famous ‘two-up’ ring from 11am in honour of Australian Diggers at war.

TRANSPORT AND ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION:
Macrossan St in Port Douglas will be closed from Grant St to Wharf St from 8am-12pm, and Cape Tribulation Rd will be closed at Cow Bay from 4.30-6am on Anzac Day.

The Daintree Ferry will be open from 4am in the morning.
