WATCH: Aussie screen legends coming to Port Douglas

PORT Douglas will again play host to some the brightest stars in the Australian film industry next month.
Emerging filmmakers will get the chance to learn from some of the countries biggest names as part of the 2017 Port Shorts Masterclass Series.
Legendary Aussie actor Stephen Curry (The Castle) will again head up the line-up and will be joined by Peter Phelps (The Square, Stingers), Wolf Creek Producer Matt Hearn, cinematographer and ACS Victoria President Warwick Field and Pirates of the Caribbean 5 drone operator Stephen Oh.
Workshops will be held in and around Port Douglas from October 25-27 with Port Shorts Ambassador Stephen Curry said it was an exciting line-up.
“The line-up of talent participating in the 2017 Masterclass Series is something you’d be unlikely to see in Sydney or Melbourne, let alone a spectacular backdrop in Far North Queensland,” Curry said.
“These film industry experts are considered among the best in their field and it’s a real coup to have an opportunity to collectively learn from them, pick their brains on how to forge a career path in the industry and gain insights into how to improve their craft.
“We can’t wait to get up there and get amongst it - if there’s a better opportunity for emerging filmmakers to immerse themselves in an intensive workshop series and learn the skills required to unlock their creative genius I’ll put my hand up to star in the next series of Ninja Warrior.”
Also joining them will be Stunt Coordinator Lawrence Woodward (Mad Max 4: Fury Road, music video Producer/Director Natasha Pincus (Gotye, Powderfinger, Paul Kelly), AFI- nominated screenwriter Kier Shorey and Kitefish Films’ Karen Jones.
Port Shorts Festival Director Alison George said organisers were able to offer the chance to participate in the Masterclass Series from just $20 per session thanks to the support of Festivals Australia.
“It’s an incredible opportunity for anyone interested in furthering their skills, whether they’re local filmmakers just starting out or recognised emerging filmmakers looking to take their productions to the next level,” George said.
Filmmakers also have until September 26 to enter the 2017 Port Shorts Film Festival and share in more than $12,000 in cash and prizes in the categories of Open Filmmaker, Local Filmmaker, the Port Shorts Young Filmmaker Awards and the new Music Video category.
