EARLIER: Wanted man Rangi Fyfe, 20, has been arrested after a foot chase in the Cairns suburb of Earlville yesterday.
The man has been on the run for almost eight weeks after a string of recent offences including the alleged ramming of a police vehicle at Buchan’s Point on August 28.
He is also allegedly responsible for a lockdown and manhunt situation in the small coastal community of Wonga Beach, north of Mossman, on August 17 after crashing a stolen vehicle into the esplanade.
Police said several investigations led them to a De Jarlais Street residence at around 2.30pm yesterday, and the man fled from the address on foot as officers approached.
It will be alleged he then forced entry to a Pitt Street residence and attempted to hide inside before being arrested and taken into custody.
The man was charged with failing to appear in court on August 2 and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.
Detectives from Mossman and Cairns are expected to be speaking with Fyfe today over a number of other outstanding matters.
