GARDENING celebrity Costa Georgiadis arrives in Port Douglas this week as anticipation builds towards the inaugural Douglas Garden Awards.

The popular host of ABC’s Gardening Australia will be visiting some of the region’s most spectacular gardens as the special guest judge of the 'Let It Grow' program.

Douglas Shire Mayor Julia Leu said it was a privilege to host Costa for the awards, whose charismatic personality and recognizable beard has endeared him to an entire nation.

“What you see on TV is what you get with Costa, he’s a very warm and charismatic character whose love for gardening is infectious,” Mayor Leu said.

“I am looking forward to visiting our local gardens with him. He is extremely passionate about his craft and his willingness to share his insights about creating beautiful green spaces is inspiring for everyone who meets him.”

Costa will also be appearing at the QT Resort this Thursday night from 5.30-7.30pm with locals invited to attend the special meet and greet.

He will also be a guest of the awards presentation at the Port Douglas Community Centre on Friday from 3.00pm, which the community is also invited to attend.

“Council launched the ‘Let It Grow’ Douglas Garden Awards to encourage locals to celebrate their love for gardening and we couldn’t have asked for a better Ambassador to help spread the word,” Mayor Leu said.
