Once in a lifetime Sir Elton John tour heading to Cairns

EXCITED about Sir Elton John tomorrow night? Silly question.

It’s being dubbed as one of the largest single events Cairns has ever hosted, with upward of 25,000 expected to flock to Cazalys Stadium; including a swarm from the Douglas Shire.

It also means planning for changed traffic conditions and road closures that will be in place to cater for the massive crowd.

Cairns Regional Council Mayor Bob Manning said the message was simple to concertgoers:

“Take the bus, check your gate, don’t be late.”

A free bus transfer from the Cairns CBD to the Cairns Showgrounds will be provided tomorrow before and after the show.

They will operate from Lake Street and the Showgrounds from 4.20pm and return to the same locations following the concert. The service is free by showing your event ticket.

“Your best bet is to avoid driving in the area altogether,” Manning said.

“There will be a lot of people moving around and cars will simply add to the congestion and this will cause frustrations for motorists.”

Road closures will be in place on Tills Street and Newell Street tomorrow from 2pm, with public pick-up and drop-off zones provided on Dalton Street and Earl Street.

Limited parking will be available for a fee at the corner of Gatton and Tills Street, and disabled parking is provided on Mulgrave Road.

SCROLL FOR TRAFFIC INFORMATION

“It’s important that everyone who is going is aware of the changed conditions and takes the time to plan their travel,” Manning continued.

“Ideally, attendees should plan to take public transport, as parking will be limited around the stadium.”
