IT'S back and tipped to be the biggest one yet. Runners from far and wide will arrive in Port Douglas this weekend for the the annual Tropical Journey’s Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival.

The hugely popular international event is expected to attract thousands on Sunday 22 October.

Last year’s event attracted record numbers, with over 1900 people hitting the course from junior categories all the way up to the gruelling 74km ultra marathon.

Event organisers are predicting to better it this year, which will see more than $50,000 raised for marine research.
