Mossman community in mourning after tragic death

WORKPLACE ACCIDENT
David Oui, 25, was tragically killed in a workplace accident involving a sugarcane harvester in the Mowbray Valley.
The father-of-two was a well-liked and respected member of the small town, and a promising footballer for the Mossman Sharks.
“We can confirm a 25 year-old Mossman man passed away as a result of a workplace accident in the location of the Mowbray Valley,” said Senior Sergeant Damian Meadows from the Port Douglas Police today.
“As a result, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland, along with the Queensland Police Forensic Crash Unit, are conducting an investigation into the incident.
“This has not only come as a massive shock to his family and friends, but to the entire community in general. He was a great bloke.”
Oui worked as a haulout operator for the Warland Brothers Pty Ltd. They were unable to comment today.
The Sharks were reeling from the tragedy.
“David was a big part of the Sharkies family, playing from juniors through to seniors,” a club spokesperson said.
“He was a true leader on and off the field and will be deeply missed by all. Our condolences go out to all the families of David Oui at this tragic time.”
A full workplace investigation will now be conducted into the incident.
