The crocodile was killed in the early hours of this morning after being captured from the Mowbray River. It was examined by specialists in Cairns today who confirmed human remains were located inside the animal.

Wildlife officers have been combing the waterways of Port Douglas since Friday looking for the crocodile believed responsible for the disappearance of Anne Cameron, covering sections of the Mowbray River, Craiglie Creek and Four Mile Beach.

Ms Cameron, 79, went missing from the Ozcare aged care facility on Tuesday afternoon.

Her clothing, walking stick and human flesh were located in the crocodile inhabited Craiglie Creek two days later.

Environment Minister Steven Miles thanked wildlife officers from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection for their tireless efforts following the tragedy.

“It has been a very difficult and harrowing week for all involved, and my thoughts are with the family of Anne Cameron at this sad time,” Miles said.

"I want to thank our team of highly-skilled wildlife officers who do this difficult, dangerous and critical work.

“The staff are experts in crocodile behaviour, biology and ecology and have done a tremendous job in identifying and removing the target animal."

He said it was important residents and visitors to Port Douglas continue to exercise 'Crocwise' behaviour at all times.
