Croc attack fear grows after discovery of remains

POSSIBLE human remains believed to be that of missing woman Anne Cameron have been found in Port Douglas today.
Far North Acting Inspector Ed Lukin said a walking stick with Mrs Cameron’s name on it, clothing and ‘biological matter’ were discovered near a creek off the Mowbray River south of the Ozcare aged care facility in Craiglie.
The 79 year-old grandmother has been missing since Tuesday afternoon.
“Earlier today… we have also located some biological matter which we believe to be human remains,” Lukin said.
“Those items are currently being tested in Cairns. The family has been notified and we ask for their privacy.”
Police said they have not scaled down the search, with 40 SES volunteers currently scouring the area at the southern end of Four Mile Beach.
“At this stage we have kept every available option open to us,” Lukin said.
“We continue to search that area in the hope that we do find her alive.
“(But) because of the proximity of these items and this unknown material located near this creek bank, we can not rule out the possibility of a croc attack.”
Police are expecting forensic results tonight to confirm if the remains are human.
“It’s likely to be human flesh, but until that’s been properly examined we won’t make any further comment on that,” Lukin said.
Mrs Cameron's granddaughter, Isabella Eggins, posted a message on social media this afternoon saying the family had come to terms with the likely tragedy.
"It is my deep regret to inform that following an extensive search and the discovery of certain items as a result of that search, we have the firm belief that my mother Anne Cameron has passed away in tragic circumstances," the Facebook post said.
"We would like to sincerely thank the police, SES, fire brigade and everyone in the Port Douglas community who helped us in the search for Anne."
