A WOMAN was allegedly tackled to the ground and robbed leaving a bottle shop on Port Douglas Road last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which occurred just after 10pm.

The 20 year-old staff member had closed the liquor outlet, on the corner of Davidson Street and Port Douglas Road, and was leaving for the night when she was approached by a man demanding cash.

“Before the woman had a chance to comply she was tackled to the ground by the man who then robbed her of a bag containing a sum of cash,” Queensland police said today.

“The man left in an unknown direction ”

The woman was not injured as a result of the incident. The man was described as Caucasian, aged in his forties with short blonde hair.

Police are now appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who witnessed anything suspicious to come forward.

Anyone who has any information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Policelink on 131 444.
