IT’S being described as arguably the world’s best steak, and Port Douglas restaurateurs, locals and tourists can’t get enough of it.

If you’re a steak lover and are yet to try a 300g Cape Grim scotch, then you haven’t really lived.

“People walk in and are blown away that we supply it,” says local butcher Sam Rogers.

The cattle at Cape Grim, on the northwestern tip of Tasmania, are making waves internationally. The pure grass fed beef enjoy ‘the purest air in the world’, meaning they also get the world’s cleanest rain – making it a utopia for grazing.

“People just love them. It’s very well respected product, it’s not commercial farming as such, they are well looked after, grass fed and finished. People just come in to have a look at the rows,” Rogers said.

“All the chefs in town talk about this steak, and so they should. They’re a world leader in what they’re doing.”

Malone’s Butchery in Port Douglas is one of the most northern suppliers of Cape Grim on the east coast, and they’ll have plenty of it entering the holiday season.

“It’s easily our most popular meat,” Rogers said.

“People are up here on holidays and they want a good steak, but who doesn’t? The locals love it too and we’re proud to be able to offer it.”

Anyone up for barbecue?
