THE honours and recognition keep pouring in for Port Douglas resident and respected tourism industry veteran Wendy Morris.

At the Queensland Tourism Awards, held in Brisbane on Friday night, Ms Morris was awarded the Marie Watson-Blake Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual. Ms Morris recently assumed the role of chair of Tourism Tropical North Queensland.

The Douglas Shire was well represented in a number of the awards.

Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures won silver in the Major Tourist Attractions; the Daintree Discovery Centre picked up bronze for Tourist Attractions and a second bronze in the Steve Irwin Award for Ecotourism category; and the Mossman Gorge Centre collected bronze for the Qantas Award for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Tourism.

In winning the Marie Watson-Blake Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual, Ms Morris was recognised for the outstanding work and her commitment to promoting Tropical North Queensland.

And Tourism Tropical North Queensland chief executive Pip Close said her organisation is certainly the richer for having Ms Morris as chair of the board.
