Cook candidates to speak in Port Douglas

ALL candidates for the seat of Cook will attend a community forum at the Clink Theatre tonight with the state election just days away.

The event, organised by the Douglas Chamber of Commerce, will give Cynthia Lui (Labor), Penny Johnson (Liberal), Brynn Mathews (Greens), Jen Sackley (One Nation) and Gordan Rasmussen (KAP) an opportunity to address a number key questions relevant to the Douglas Shire.

Queenslanders head to the polling booths this Saturday 25 November.

“We are pleased all candidates have agreed to attend and it gives the people in this community an opportunity to interact with them,” Martin Tranter from the Chamber said today.

The forum will commence from 6pm with each candidate given up to 10 minutes to speak with no interjections allowed. The order of candidates speaking will be drawn by ballot.

The Chamber received feedback and suggestions from its members and the public, and have put a number of questions to each candidate regarding the following topics:

  • Douglas Shire's representation within the State
  • Tourism
  • Crocodile Management
  • Mossman Mill
  • Business
  • Daintree
  • State funds
  • Electricity
  • Environment. 


The evening with be chaired by the Douglas Chamber of Commerce.
