SAME-sex marriage is almost certain to be legalised in Australia after the overwhelming Yes vote was revealed in the postal survey this morning.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics have just announced the results which showed the overwhelming majority of the country had voted in favour of changing the status quo and legalising same-sex marriage.
Over 12 million Australians took part in the vote, with a 61.6 per cent returning a Yes response. A total 38.4 per cent returned a No vote.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said it was now up to his parliament to 'get on with it', and vowed to complete the reform before Christmas.
"The people have spoken in their millions, and they have voted an overwhelming yes for marriage equality," he said live from Canberra.
"It is now our job now to get on with it... get on with it, and get this done."

Melbourne and Sydney returned the highest number of votes with 83.7 per cent in favour of marriage reform.
Same-sex marriage advocate and comedian Magda Szubanski told the The Morning Show this morning she now hoped politicians would quickly deal with the marriage reform.
“If it’s a Yes, I would hope that this would be expedited really quickly and that they don’t keep dragging us under the bus,” she said this morning.
“They already threw us under the bus, all of them, don’t keep dragging us under the bus."
The debate started back in August and has gripped the nation.
