POLICE have charged a 32-year-old Craiglie man following an alleged incident at a residence early on Saturday morning.

A Cairns woman had been socialising with a group of friends in Port Douglas on Friday night and had returned to the man’s Craiglie address with several others.

It will be alleged the man subsequently entered a room where the woman was sleeping and indecently assaulted her. The woman immediately left the residence and reported the incident.

Police attended the Captain Cook Highway residence at Craiglie where they located and spoke with the man.

He was taken into custody and subsequently charged with one count of rape. He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court later this morning.
