Junior Crocs sweat it out in season openers

JUNIOR CROCS

Last updated:

SCORCHING START: It was a hot opening round for the under 15 Port Douglas Junior Crocs.

IT was a terrific start to the 2017 junior AFL season in what is an extremely hot part of the year.

Good numbers turned up for all the grades, however more players are encouraged to join the club in what looks like an exciting year.

We are particularly keen on recruiting female players for all grades following on from the success of the inaugural AFL Woman’s competition, which is showcasing the best female AFL talent across Australia.

The Coaches and Team Managers appreciate the help including washing the jumpers, cutting oranges and running water provided by the parents during the week. Community spirit is what makes the Crocs and AFL a stand out.

Come on down to the club on Tuesday or Thursday to give AFL a try. Contact club president Trevor Mandersloot for more information on 0437 290 507

Auskick (Port Douglas Fridays 4pm and Mossman Saturdays 9.30am):
The first 2 weeks of Auskick have focused on the main ingredient of AFL…having FUN. The focus was on learning the essential skills of Kkcking and handballing. This week’s skill will be the art of marking.

UNDER 8
Crocs Navy v North Cairns Black:
Under 8 Navy took on the Tigers at Watson's Oval. The rain did not stop the boys with Ethan, Harry, Kobe and Cooper all kicking goals. The boys played some exciting footy and their teamwork was exceptional. As always it was great to see new crocs; Angus, Parker and Quade play their first game for Port.

Congratulations to this week award winners in Marcus, Angus and Quade.

Crocs White v Central Trinity Beach White:
Under 8 Whites had a tough initiation to season 2017 against a well drilled Bulldogs outfit. In the last quarter it was exciting to see from defence the team force their way forward with all players touching the ball.

Some great forward pressure from Kira assisted Arlo Miller in kicking the teams 1st goal for the season. Cadel, Raife and Arlo Jones had plenty of touches stepping up to the faster under 8s with great support from the more experienced Aaron and Kane.

Players of the week were Cadel, Aaron, Kira and Arlo M.

UNDER 9
Crocs v’s North Cairns:

Footy is back with the under 9's playing the Tigers at Watson's Oval in blazing HOT conditions.
The first quarter saw Harry kick three quick goals and Cooper taking an exceptional mark. Michael showed plenty of dash and finished the game with a massive goal. Well done boys and thanks to all the helpers on the day.

Player of the week awards went to Campbell, and new players Joe and Michael.

UNDER 13
Crocs v Cairns Hawks:

Right from the first bounce the crocs seemed focused and played great team football. Jack, Conor and Jonte were outstanding as were first game players Jacob and Leo. A Fantastic team effort played in very hot conditions resulted in two impressive team goals.

Crocs 2. 0 (12) lost to Hawks 6.6 (36)
Goal kickers: Ewan and Jack
Players of the week: Jacob, Charlie and Colen.

UNDER 15
Crocs v North Cairns:
The Crocs played against a strong North Cairns team at Watsons Oval. In hot conditions the team showed great endeavour and gave 100 per cent in what was a great team effort. With a new bunch of kids playing together for the first time we can only improve on today’s performance. I’m more than proud of the way the boys played today.

Crocs 2.0 (12) lost to North Cairns 17.17 (119)
Goal kickers: Keanu Scotts Speckman and Jamie Hudson
Players of the week: Charlie Dowling, Jake Sherwell and Keanu Scotts Speckman.
