'Female' traffic lights cause a stir

GENDER EQUALITY

IN the lead up to International Women’s Day today, a Victorian lobby group was successful in its bid change 10 pedestrian crossing lights in the Melbourne CBD to female figures.

The Equal Crossings campaign was targeting 'unconscious bias’, and has caused quite the stir with many criticising the campaign as a waste of money, believing the original figure wasn't necessarily male.

It also sparked counter posts on social media which has generated some heated debate.
