Cops nab copper thieves in Killaloe
MOSSMAN
A Wujal-Wujal woman aged 38 and a 30-year-old Kuranda man were charged yesterday following the alleged theft of a quantity of scrap metal from a Killaloe waste transfer station in the early hours of Sunday morning.
It will be alleged the pair parked their vehicle on a track near the facility before entering and stealing copper piping which they then loaded into the vehicle.
Mossman police were patrolling the area when they observed the suspect vehicle parked on a track near the facility at around 4am. Officers waited a short distance away and intercepted the vehicle as it left the facility loaded with the allegedly stolen scrap copper.
The couple was arrested and both the utility and allegedly stolen property were seized.
They were each charged with one count each of trespass and stealing. The woman was also charged with possession of tainted property.
They are both scheduled to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on April 20.
