COMMENT: Gordon still undecided on Cook seat
COMMENT
HEALTH and family will be the determining factors if Billy Gordon decides to contest his Cook seat in the Queensland state election which is speculated for some time this year.
Although Gordon did not respond to Newsport on this issue, it has been widely reported that he is undecided at this stage.
In February last year, Gordon suffered a minor heart attack and was admitted to Cairns Hospital.
Gordon’s tenure has been plagued with controversy and his recent comments that he would not swim at Four Mile Beach and recommended tourists seeking a classic beach holiday should go to the Gold Coast, will not help him at the polls.
He was elected as a Labor member for Cook in the Queensland Legislative Assembly at the 2015 election before becoming an independent two months later. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk expelled him from the Labor caucus after he publicly disclosed a criminal history dating back to the 1980s and numerous other offences.
Gordon was charged with drink driving and unlicensed driving on 1 June 2016 while pulled over at a random traffic stop on the Kennedy Highway at Kuranda, on the Atherton Tableland west of Cairns.
He was taken to the Kuranda police station and allegedly returned a blood-alcohol content reading of 0.094. On 1 July 2016 Gordon pled guilty to both charges in the Brisbane Magistrates Court. He was fined $750 and disqualified from driving for four months.
