Police seek public help into Mareeba double fatality
FATAL CRASH
DETECTIVES are continuing their public appeal for information after two men were killed in a crash near Mareeba on Sunday.
Forensic investigators have cleared the crime scene on Davies Creek Road and taken the Toyota Hilux involved in the fatal smash to Atherton for forensic examination.
Mungalli Sheriff, 21, and Abel Friend, 28, died at the scene when the ute they were driving in crashed into a tree.
Another man, 22 year-old James Hannan, escaped the incident with minor injuries.
Officer in Charge of the Forensic Crash Unit, Sergeant Scott Ezard, is appealing for information from the public into the crash. They are yet to determine who was driving the vehicle.
“We are trying to piece together the movements of the males involved in the crash from about 4pm onwards on Saturday July 1,” Sergeant Ezard said.
“They were travelling in a white 1988 Toyota Landcruiser utility and are believed to have visited several places in the Mareeba area that day.
“We urge anyone with information to please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 00.”
Police were originally called to the crash site at around 6am on Sunday.
