Man stabbed in chest in Port Douglas

Two men have been charged in relation to an alleged stabbing on Murphy Street in Port Douglas. IMAGE: Newsport.

TWO MEN have been charged after an alleged stabbing incident in Port Douglas on Saturday night.

It will be alleged the pair had been socialising with a 49-year-old man in Murphy Street around 11.20pm when an altercation occurred. The argument escalated and it will be alleged the 49-year-old was stabbed with a broken bottle.

He sustained a stab wound to the chest, severe bruising and facial injuries and was taken to Mossman Hospital before being airlifted to Cairns Base Hospital.

A 32-year-old Mareeba man and a 32-year-old Newell man have both been charged with wounding and assault occasioning bodily harm. Both men are scheduled to appear in Mossman Magistrates Court on July 11.

Detectives charged the men yesterday following investigations into the alleged unlawful wounding.
