HEMINGWAY’S Brewery turns one this weekend and they plan on celebrating in style.

The brewery will be heaving on Friday for its first birthday party and the hugely popular Seafood Extravaganza has been reignited for this Sunday to coincide with the landmark occasion.

Hemingway’s Events Manager Chris Barber said it felt like yesterday they were telling customers ‘we just opened’.

“We opened our doors for the first time during last year’s peak season, so we hit the ground running,” he said.

“We had a short period to reflect during the off season but it has been all hands on deck since the start of 2017.

“There are masses of holidaymakers seeking out a Hemingway's brew at the moment, so we’ve got a huge weekend in store.”

Barber said the various Hemingway’s brews were increasing in popularity and were reflective of a booming Australian craft beer market. And they will all be on offer this Friday afternoon as the birthday celebrations begin with local favourite Shannon Hunter on the axe from 5pm.

Attention will turn to the rebooted Seafood Extravaganza on Sunday, which was notably absent from this year’s Port Douglas Carnivale. Hemingway’s has teamed up with Lure Restaurant & Bar and Barbados at The Reef Marina to showcase live music and an endless supply of fresh seafood, with over 10 vendors on deck.

“We listened to a lot of locals who were sad not to have the seafood extravaganza this year,” Barber said.

“So as a thank you to the community we’re bringing it back with a bang.

“It’s shaping up to be a fantastic day with an incredible line up of music including the Kroovs, Shannon Hunter, Mikhail Laxton, the Montgomery brothers and Sun Salute.

“What better place to have them all than on the grassed area opposite Barbados watching the sunset, plus we’ll have DJ Bart keeping the party going from 7pm.”

The free event will also include a swag of things to keep the kids entertained including Melville’s Animal Farm, a reptile show from Hartley’s, the Clink Kids, the Port Douglas fire truck and face painting. There will also be ice cream, donuts and snow cones.

“We felt making the Seafood Extravaganza family friendly was very important,” Barber said.

“We want as many families as possible to come down and join us in celebrating our first year.”
