A DAINTREE resident is now a millionaire thanks to a split second decision to have a ‘quick beer’ in Mossman.

The 48-year-old man, who has decided to protect his identity, popped into the The Post Office Hotel in Mossman yesterday to put on game of Kwikpik Keno. Five minutes later he’d won the $1.7 million jackpot.

“He was in complete and utter shock, just sweating,” The Post Office Hotel manager Chris Sims told Newsport.

“He was actually scared to check his ticket, but there was only about 10 people in the pub at the time and he was the only one playing the 10-number (jackpot).

“He just came in for a quick beer while doing some shopping.”

Sims said the man, who has been out of work for some time, then sat down and ‘tried to wrap his head around it all’.

He paid $10 for the winning ticket with all 10 numbers coming up, landing him a cool $1,778,636.

“He then went out to the car and found every last cent he had and put it over the bar for everyone," Sims said.

The winning Keno numbers were 4, 12, 20, 21, 24, 28, 40, 50, 79, and 80.

Bartender Teresa Davey, who sold the winning ticket, said she was still 'buzzing' with excitement.

"I think i was more excited than he was, he was in complete shock," she said.

"You could have knocked him over with a feather. I'll never forget the look on his face."

The Post Office Hotel has been a hotspot for Keno recently with four winning games of $3600 paid out.

“We’re on a bit of a roll, but (there's been) nothing like this ” Sims said.
