POLICE will close the Kennedy Highway on the lower half of the Kuranda Range this morning as part of the investigation into the alleged kidnapping of Port Douglas woman Jessica Hamill.

An intense manhunt last week eventually led to Port Douglas man Daniel Rooney, 24, being charged with attempted murder after he allegedly drove a car off a steep embankment on the range, with Hamill inside the vehicle.

As part of police scientific examinations of the Kuranda Range, the highway will be closed in both directions for at least 30 minutes at 11am today.

Motorists travelling to and from Cairns via the Kuranda Range today are urged to either delay travel during this period, alternately change travel times to accommodate this expected delay of up to half an hour.

Police will endeavour to move traffic as soon as these examinations are conducted, however it’s expected delays will occur.
