Texas style smoked brisket will be just one item having tongues wagging at The Reef Marina this Saturday for Hemingway's Brews, Blues and BBQ event. Win passes below!

REEF Marina general manager Robert Cruz will feel at home (sort of) this weekend when he gets to experience the inaugural Hemingway’s Brews, Blues & BBQ at the Marina on Saturday from 10am.

Enjoying the delights of a good BBQ is nothing new to the Austin, Texas-born Cruz. As Cruz will tell you, barbecue is a way of life in Austin, there is just no way around it.

“And Brews, Blues and BBQ are like salt and pepper or gin and tonic. They mould together in a perfect mix,” says Cruz who is a ‘brisket man’ by choice.

Saturday’s BBQ will involve a national competition in association with the Australasian BBQ Alliance and will be a round of the Barbecues Galore Australian BBQ Championships.

The categories are Beef, Chicken, Lamb and Pork Ribs (plus a special promoters challenge) and a minimum of $4,000 in cash and trophies are up for grabs.

In growing the sport of ‘competition barbecue’ in one of the northernmost parts of the country will be exciting for the barbecue movement and provide the locals a glimpse of the fine tasting barbecue the rest of the country is going mad for.

Competitors in the BBQ competition fire up from 5pm on Friday on the grassed area of the Reef Marina (in front of Barbados). For teams looking to transport smokers and equipment, Hemingway’s has teamed up with a freight company who can offer any assistance.

Besides the aroma that should draw people to the marina, there’ll be bands, food stalls and a large variety of brews available on Saturday.
