NORTH Queensland coach Brad Cooper plans to serve up something different in the AFL intrastate clash against South Queensland tomorrow.

Playing as the curtain raiser to the AFL match between Gold Coast Suns and Western Bulldogs, the northern team was outclassed by their southern rivals at Cazalys Stadium last year.

“We don’t draw on as many as South Queensland and they have a far bigger pool to choose from, but we have a strong footy region up here and we’re determined to showcase it,” Cooper said.

“We’re going to try a few new things tomorrow and offer up something a little different than previous years.

“It’s no good serving up the same thing as last year because we got beat.”

North Queensland have a training session on Friday night at Cazalys Stadium before settling on a final 23.

Port Douglas players Kye Chapple (captain), Jonathon Hobbs, Peter Bury, Mitch Bohm, Wes Glass, Declan Kelly and Mathew Medcraft will all play.

Cooper, the 2016 Queensland senior coach of the year, said the side was determined to perform.

“We’ve got a fair bit of talent at our disposal,” he said.

“The boys want to give a really good account of themselves and I’m confident we will.

“We’ll certainly make sure we defend well, but we’ve got a fair amount of talent at our disposal that will hurt them when we’ve got the footy.”
