Hundreds lined the streets to watch the NAIDOC Week street parade in Mossman. IMAGE: Newsport.

HUNDREDS of people took to the streets in Mossman on Friday to celebrate NAIDOC Week.

Locals and schools from around the region turned Main Street into a sea of colour culminating in a family fun day at George Davis Park.

Mossman and the Douglas Shire celebrate with pride every year the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and the contributions Indigenous Australians make to the region.

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920?s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.
