TWO sheep swept away in flood water have been found alive and well more than a kilometre from their home.

Although still holding out hope for the third sheep washed away in the torrent that hit a Cassowary property on Sunday, for owner Lisa Armbrust it's a case of two out of three ain’t bad.

She feared all three would drown leaving a sizeable dent in her family’s budget so early in the New Year.

The mother-of-two and her husband, Ben, were unable to thoroughly search for the animals for more than 24 hours after they went missing. But a later sweep of the Cassowary Creek line uncovered the first sheep hidden in leaves and mulch, while the second was found hours later almost 100 metres further along.

“Ben was looking for anything white or listening for any noise that may lead him in the right direction,” Lisa explained.

“He found the first one in leaf mulch and returned to the same area and walked more of the creek and headlands before finding the second male 100m from the first.

“We are surprised but elated. It was good they were both on the same side of the creek and not far from each other.”

Both male sheep are recovering well and escaped without serious injury. Lisa said they had not given up on finding the missing female sheep, although they were running out of ideas.

“We have searched approximately 2km of creek bank and have found nothing so far,” she said.

“Ben has continued to look every afternoon but found no other leads or evidence of the third sheep. We’re at a loss what to do next to try and find her.

“There is one island we can check once the water resides but other than that we are starting to lose hope.”
