THE Welcome To Paradise mural on Port Douglas Road is proving a tougher assignment than first anticipated.

The project, which commenced in November by Douglas Street Art (DS Art), remains unfinished and has been delayed due to inclement weather and work commitments.

Despite the challenges, Project Manager of DS Art, Kevin Eldridge, says they're satisfied with the progress made and would enter the second stage of the project on March 1.

?“Volunteer artists underestimated the sheer amount of paint and time this project takes and had a break over Christmas/New Year,” he said.

“(We’ve) also been delayed by work commitments and the weather.”

The big green wall, between the Sheraton Mirage and QT Resort, has already been painted with reef imagery and will now embark on completing a rainforest design.??

Eldridge said the group had an agreement in place ‘which allows three months from March 1 for completion of the project.’

They would also ‘buff’ the free wall next to the mural, which allows for creative expression for any local artist.
