THE multi-million dollar Reef Marina upgrade is expected to get the green light this week and herald the most significant development in the Douglas Shire since the 1980s when Christopher Skase turned Port Douglas into a tourist mecca.

What has been a lengthy and complicated process could result in a most satisfactory outcome at a special meeting on Friday afternoon at 2pm where the matter is expected to go before the Douglas Shire Council.

The Reef Marina’s development application was originally scheduled for tomorrow’s monthly Council meeting but was deferred to Friday due to a number of matters needing to be ironed out.

The Reef Marina’s Andrew Hooper-Nguyen said today he was “hopeful” they would get an answer this week.

“We have done everything we can and provided the information required. It’s now in Council’s hands and all we can hope for is a positive result,” he said.

Key features of the $85 million re-development include a rainforest walk connecting Macrossan Street to the Marina, waterfront residences including 80 new apartments and townhouses; and a live entertainment venue complete with stage.

The make-over is predicted to have an economic impact in excess of $600 million over the next 30 years.

The agenda for tomorrow’s Council meeting (10am Council Chambers, Mossman):

1. Request for comment on Turtle Rock Café and Safari Lodge proposed liquor license
2. Request for permissible change - 123 Davidson Street Port Douglas
3. Garden competition
4. Financial report for the period ending 31 January 2017
5. Water and wastewater quarterly report for the period ending 31 December 2016
6. 2016/2017 operational plan progress report for the period October - December 2016
7. Capital works progress report for the 2nd quarter 2016 – 2017
8. Application for permanent road closure abutting lot 6 on sp123877 off Banabilla Road Degarra
