Cooktown woman charged with murdering her mother
COOKTOWN MURDER
A COOKTOWN woman arrested for the alleged murder of her mother on Friday will face the Cairns Magistrates Court in April after her case was adjourned this morning.
Police declared an emergency situation in Hope Vale on Saturday after it was alleged 46-year-old Maree Anne Blackwell was armed inside a Cameron Creek Rd residence after fatally shooting her 71-year-old mother, Lesley Blackwell, in the head with a shotgun.
Cooktown police charged the woman with murder after she surrendered following a stand-off lasting several hours at the property, which was located between Cooktown and Hopevale.
She was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon and appeared in court this morning.
