Port Douglas man charged after alleged assault on Dicksons Inlet
PORT DOUGLAS
A 23-year-old Port Douglas man was charged on Monday following investigations into the alleged assault of a 39-year-old man on Dixon Inlet earlier this month.
The victim was asleep in his moored vessel just after 2am on December 3 when he was awoken by an approaching dinghy.
It will be alleged the man yelled at the driver of the dinghy to slow down, at which point the dinghy driver approached the victim’s vessel and a verbal altercation ensued.
It will be further alleged the dinghy driver then boarded the victim’s vessel and punched him in the face a number of times before leaving in the dinghy.
The victim sustained significant facial lacerations and bruising and was assisted to shore by witnesses.
He was then transported to Mossman Hospital for further treatment.
Detectives spoke with a 23-year-old man at the Port Douglas police station yesterday and he was charged with entering a premise and committing an indictable offence.
The man is scheduled to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on January 10.
