IS this George the Groper?
It was a question swirling around the Port Douglas marina this morning after the discovery of a two metre fish, believed to be either a Queensland Groper or a large cod, floating dead on the surface.
It was a question swirling around the Port Douglas marina this morning after the discovery of a two metre fish, believed to be either a Queensland Groper or a large cod, floating dead on the surface.
Local members of the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol removed the fish to be taken for an autopsy today, measuring it at exactly two metres.
It comes less than two months since the closure of On The Inlet restaurant, where a giant groper famously called ‘George’ was fed daily by staff to the delight of tourists. The former Inlet Street venue is currently vacant awaiting development.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries and the Port Douglas Boating and Fisheries Patrol office have both been contacted for comment.
More to come…
