THERE are grave concerns for a 71 year-old Chinese tourist, Lipping Zhou, missing in Port Douglas.

The woman, who doesn’t speak English and suffers from dementia, is holidaying in Port Douglas with family and was last seen at 10pm last night. It’s believed she may have wandered off as her family was sleeping.

A helicopter has been searching along Four Mile Beach and the surrounding area, while water police from Cairns are en route to Port Douglas.

They will focus on the Dicksons Inlet and Magazine Island areas.

Port Douglas Police Senior Sargent Damien Meadows said the woman had also previously gone missing in her native China before being found, but concerns were growing for her welfare.

“Obviously we are very worried, but she is in good physical health for her age,” Meadows said.

“We are urging anyone that may have come into contact with this woman to contact police urgently.

“As you can imagine her family is quite distressed.”

Mrs Zhou is described as being Asian in appearance, of slim build, at around 140cms tall with short black hair.

Anyone with information can contact Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
