PORT Douglas captain Kye Chapple has booted 16 majors to register his third straight 100-goal season in the AFL Cairns competition.

Leading by 95 points at half time, the Crocs sensed an opportunity to tick off the milestone ahead of the finals series and began to target their gun spearhead as often as possible against lowly North Cairns.

Needing exactly 16 goals to reach the ton, Chapple had four at the main break but booted eight final quarter goals (12 in second half) to send the home crowd into raptures at the Port Douglas Sporting Complex.

The most excited fan was his mum, Christine, who had made the journey up from Horsham in Victoria to watch her son.

“It was good to get it done on the home ground,” Chapple said after the game.

“I had my mum up as well which was nice.”

Chapple admitted his teammates ‘looked after me’ in the second half, especially as he edged towards the milestone in the final term.

“We talked about it a little bit, but on our home ground, everyone wants to do it on their home ground,” he said.

“The boys looked after me.”

The Crocs smashed the Tigers by a massive 209 points booting 34.20 (224) to 2.3 (15).

Chapple was clearly the star, but the reigning premier was well served by Todd Shapter, Pete Bury, Mitch Bohm, Josh Lea and Jonathan Hobbs.

“We are flying at the moment,” the skipper said.

“Everyone is putting in 100 per cent, even the two’s boys who are pushing for senior spots. There is a real good thing going on at the club at the moment, good culture, and hopefully we’ll go deep in both grades come finals.”
