PORT Douglas has shifted its gaze to semi-final opponent Centrals Trinity Beach after cruising to a 97 point win over South Cairns on Saturday.

Crocs midfielder Todd Shaper said his undefeated team had been ‘hanging’ to kick off its finals campaign after one of their most dominant AFL Cairns seasons.

They finished the home-and-away rounds unbeaten with the minor premiership and a huge percentage of 385. 91.

“There’s no doubt we’ve been hanging to get stuck into the finals series,” Shapter said.

“We’ve been pretty dominant all year but we know the intensity will lift a cog this weekend.”

Shapter was his side’s best player in the convincing 20.7 (127) to 4.6 (30) win over the Cutters on Saturday. He knocked up getting the footy after missing the last two weeks with work commitments.

Joshua Lea, Dylan Wearmouth, Declan Kelly and Josh Wilson were also influential.

“South Cairns are always pretty tough opposition but we were confident if we stuck to our normal structures we’d get the result,” Shapter said.

“We’ve been told there is probably six or seven positions up for grabs (for the senior team) so there is a healthy competition amongst the group to perform.

“That’s a credit to Coops (coach Brad Cooper). Everyone really understands their roles and what’s expected of them.”

The Crocs are attempting to claim back-to-back premierships for the first time in the club’s history this year. The AFL Cairns final series kicks off this Saturday at Cazalys Stadium with the Crocs facing the Bulldogs at 3.30pm.
