POLICE have charged three young men allegedly responsible for a spate of thefts in Mossman and Port Douglas.

Two 14 year-old boys, from Edge Hill and Mareeba, and a 17 year-old Bentley Park man were arrested by Mossman detectives over the weekend as a result of investigations into recent property related incidents.

It will be alleged that the trio forced entry to a Front Street business in the early hours of Saturday morning and stole keys, cash and tobacco from an office area, before stealing a motor vehicle from the premises. The vehicle was later returned and left in the yard.

It will be further alleged that the Edge Hill youth gained entry to a residence in Port Douglas and stole property including cash, sunglasses, a computer tablet and clothing items.

A set of keys was also stolen which were then used to steal the resident’s four wheel drive vehicle, which was located in Mossman the following night.

Entry was also forced at the Junction Cafe in Mossman, where a computer tablet and a quantity of soft drink was stolen. A local fuel station was also targeted, however entry was not gained.

The three alleged offenders were arrested over the course of the weekend at addresses in Mossman.

The 17-year-old was charged with two counts of entering premises and stealing, and one count each of attempted entry to premises and unlawful use of a motor vehicle. He is due to appear in the Mossman Magistrates Court on April 20.

The Edge Hill youth was charged with three counts each of breaking and entering premises and unlawful use of motor vehicles, as well as one count each of burglary, receiving tainted property and unlicensed driving.

The Mareeba youth was charged with two counts of entering premises and stealing, and one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
