Elderly man nabbed speeding with drugs
HIGH AND DRIED
A 75-year-old Cooktown man has proved you’re never too old to get caught.
Officers from Mareeba Road Policing Unit intercepted a vehicle on the Mulligan Highway yesterday after detecting the driver exceeding the speed limit.
It will be alleged the elderly man was clocked doing 132km/h in a 100km/h zone, provided a positive reading for drugs and had approximately 950 grams of dried cannabis in his possession.
The man was issued with a Notice to Appear in Cooktown Magistrates Court on June 8, charged with drug driving and possess dangerous drugs.
He was also issued with a Traffic Infringement Notice for $568 for exceeding the speed.
