UPDATE: Four Mile Beach has been reopened following one confirmed crocodile sighting at main beach in Port Douglas.

Newsport is still waiting on a response from the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) confirming details of a second crocodile sighting further south of the Port Douglas Surf Life Saving patrol hut.

The crocodile spotted near the main swimming area this morning was between 1.5m and 3m in length, however EHP is still yet to provide details.

EARLIER: FOUR Mile Beach has been closed until 2pm following two crocodile sightings this morning.

A crocodile, believed to be in excess of two-metres, was seen by beachgoers and surf life saving staff a short while ago straight in front of the patrol hut.

Lifeguard Connor O’Sullivan confirmed the sighting to Newsport this morning.

“I was paddling on my surf ski and saw it right in front of the hut, and it was pointed out by others as well,” O’Sullivan said.

“It appears to have gone back towards the direction of the inlet, but the beach will be closed until 2pm.”

A tourist spotted a different crocodile further south on Four Mile Beach almost at the same time of the main beach sighting.

It is mandatory for the beach to be closed for four hours following any crocodile sighting.

More to come.
