SAILAWAY EXPANSION

STEVE and Katrina Edmondson, owner and operators of the hugely popular Sailaway fleet in Port Douglas, are expanding their operations to Cape Tribulation next year.

The sustainable tourism champions will offer a premium sailing experience to the outer Great Barrier Reef, where guests can step off the sandy beach of Cape Tribulation in the Daintree National Park and enjoy the wind-powered experience aboard luxury catamaran Sailaway IV.

“It’s the northern frontier for marine tourism and we aim to do the destination justice with a relaxed nature experience, ideal for the conservation minded visitor, to appreciate natures finest in the most sustainable way,” Steve said.

“We are excited to offer this new opportunity for visitors of all ages to enjoy a unique, easy and relaxed nature experience. It is ideal for the conservation-minded visitor wishing to appreciate nature at her finest in the most environmentally sensitive way.”

The full-day adventure will include guided snorkelling tours with a marine biologist and glass bottom boat tours to the prime sites of Mackay and Undine Coral Cays, only 10 nautical miles from Cape Tribulation Beach and just over one hour’s sail away aboard Sailaway IV.

Sailaway Cape Trib, to start on April 1, will provide visitors a perfect opportunity to combine a true sustainable ecotourism adventure to the outer reef, with other tourism experiences and accommodation at Cape Tribulation, where the Daintree meets the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef.

Recognised as a Green Travel Leader, Sailaway has Ecotourism Certification and Climate Action Leader accreditation and is a Nationally Awarded Sustainability Operator.

Steve said his business ethos is to “go lightly to deliver a big message”, helping to protect natural assets for future generations and encouraging and inspiring guests and the wider tourism industry to become environmental ambassadors.

?Another innovation Steve and Katrina are bringing to the region in early 2017 is their new luxury Lagoon 560 catamaran, which is currently sailing to Australia via the Panama Canal and the Pacific Ocean.

Named Aristos, she will become Sailaway VI and will take over from Sailaway IV conducting full-day sailing to Low Isles and sunset sailing out of Port Douglas.

“This ocean going vessel will provide more comfort and space for our small number of guests being an authentic sailing experience with snorkelling and island exploring,” Steve said.
