Local groups join forces to raise money for conservation
WET TROPICS
THE Douglas Shire Sustainability Group (DSSG), Eternal Endemism and Great Barrier Reef (GBR) Legacy are proud to announce a collaborative project that will highlight some of the amazing groups and individuals in our region, who are doing great things to help keep our local environments healthy.
DSSG is an environmental advocacy group whose focus is to promote and support environmental sustainable practices to aid in the protection and conservation of the unique environment of the Douglas Shire area.
DSSG president, Kevin Eldridge, explained that their group is often asked to support and endorse other organisations and projects. Eternal Endemism has recently published ‘The Wet Tropics’, by author Craig Ward, which is being endorsed and supported by the DSSG platform.
This visually stunning book is a celebration of the unique wildlife found only within Australia’s World Heritage Listed Wet Tropics. Endemic species are featured in full colour, with subspecies and other notable animals included as short briefs. It serves as a tribute to the photographers and biologists who work there and a call to arms for conservation.
With every purchase of the book, Eternal Endemism will donate $5 towards GBR Legacy.
GBR Legacy is a not-for-profit organisation with Australian Tax Deductible status, based in Port Douglas. Their aim is to create a non-government funded research, education, multimedia institute that will inspire stewardship of the GBR and reef systems worldwide through innovation in marine research, education, conservation, and community engagement.
The interconnection between the reef, rainforest and mangrove systems cannot be overstated. Where the reef offers coastline structural protection and promotes rain formation, the coastal vegetation provides filtering and acts as a buffer system to minimize land pollution and run off reaching the reef.
Together, DSSG, Eternal Endemism and GBR Legacy will raise awareness about our unique local wildlife and current threats to our ecosystems as well as generate funds for much needed research.
Purchase of the book can be made through the DSSG website or directly through Eternal Endemism website; please enter “GBR Legacy” in the comments section of the websites to donate $5 of the sales to GBR Legacy.
