Ladies shine at spring basketball competition

THE final of the Ladies Spring Basketball Competition was held at the Port Douglas Cyclone Centre on Thursday night. The competing teams were the Almost Angels and the Wildcats.
Although the Angels topped the ladder in the regular season, in the final showdown the Wildcats were too strong.
Due to excellence defence by both teams, scoring was low and for the first match in the season, no three pointers were recorded. The Wildcats won each quarter but in the last quarter with less than five minutes to go, the Angels rallied to get within two points. Being true to their name, the Wildcats rose with a flurry of points and the final scoreboard showed Wildcats 28 and Almost Angles 21.
A new team to enter the competition, is the Indigenous Allstars, from the Wangetti Girls’ Academy. They made the trip up to watch the final and were warmly welcomed. The Encouragement Award was won by Rexlyn Gordon, from the Allstars.
The Most Valuable Player of the Night award, went to the captain of the Wildcats, Michelle Teasdale and the MVP for the Season went to Jade Philip from the Almost Angels.
