First loss of season for C grade Muddies

THE Astute Financial Muddies C grade team have suffered their first loss of the season, going down meekly to Innisfail in a road trip that failed to deliver.
The Muddies won the toss and elected to bat on a poorly prepared pitch, confident that runs on the board was the key. It was a simple plan but unfortunately the Muddies batsmen could not turn the plan into reality.
Questionable decisions by the umpire, poor shot selection and failing bodies all conspiring to keep the Muddies below the 100 mark, 9-92. Jenkins again looked strong but his groin was unfamiliar with the free scoring nature of his innings which he and retired hurt on 18. Matt Williams on his recall made a useful 12 along with Barnes, surely due for promotion up the order.
The Muddies needed to take early wickets to be in with a chance but the cane farming descendants batsmen were unable to read the brief and took to the Muddies openers, the home team 1-43 off six overs, Sponsor Simon Cody taking the only early wicket at the expense of 28 runs.
Redfern and all-rounder Barnes were called on to stop the rot, Barnes taking a wicket off his first delivery but made no further inroads. Michael Schultz, Keith Taylor and Daniel Redfern all bowled probing spells with no return, the Innsifail team cruising to an eight-wicket win with seven overs in hand.
The Muddies have the opportunity to redeem themselves this weekend at home against Barron, and re-take their place at the top of the table.
Be sure to watch the ‘magic’ from 1pm this Sunday at the Mudpit.
