BREAKING: Fire sends smoke billowing across Port Douglas

A GRASS fire has sent smoke billowing across Port Douglas.
The fire broke out along the access lane behind the cemetery sending birds and wildlife scampering.
Two fire trucks were called along with two Ergon trucks.
It is still unclear how the fire started.
“We received a call from a member of the community so we’ve rushed down as quick as possible,” A Port Douglas Fire Brigade spokesperson said at the scene.
“It actually happened last year and the year before that so it has become a bit of a yearly event.”
Fire crew are currently conducting back burning at the scene and were sweeping the area.
Investigations are continuing.
