Young Muddies impress against Atherton

AFTER an entertaining Friday evening pitch report from apprentice groundsman, Redderz, the Astute Financial U16’s Muddies were keen to get a look at the deck for day one of their two day match against Atherton.
After arguably the boys best performance of the season to date, they lead Atherton with both teams still in their first innings (Atherton 7/111, Muddies 3/124).
Winning a crucial toss after a wet night, Captain Daniel Davidson sent the Atherton boys in to bat. The Atherton opener and captain popped one up on just the third ball of the match and was out for a duck, caught off the bowling of Vice Captain Ryan Doble.
Ryan’s five overs saw him finish day one with 1/25. Reuben Allison continued his impressive form with the ball finishing with 0/9 from three overs and first change bowler Curtis White consistently bowled good areas troubling the batsmen with his 0/8 from three overs.
Liam Clacherty’s heat had the Atherton batsmen jumping, and Nathan Deuble’s good form with the ball continued, picking up both the other opener, and the prize wicket of Samadhi Baker to claim an impressive 2/6 from four overs.
Vincent Killeen’s leg spin played havoc with the Atherton middle order accounting for three of their batsmen from his six over spell, including a double wicket maiden. Nick Rayner took care of the Atherton keeper, again impressive with 1/5 from four overs including two maidens. Tom Harvey and Tex McDowall were both impressive taking 0/16 and 0/4 respectively.
When the Muddies took to the crease the Atherton opening bowlers struggled to make an impression until Daniel Davidson was trapped in front LBW for 23 from 35 balls.
Nathan Deuble was as impressive with the bat as he was with the ball compiling a well crafted 34 from 48 before falling victim to Atherton’s off spinner Samadhi Baker. Ryan Stanaway, playing up a grade from the Muddies U14’s team, is becoming increasing valuable to the older team with his attacking batting style. At the close of play on the first day the not out batsmen are Vincent Killeen 32 from 55 and Curtis White 11 from 39.
