Pilot survives helicopter crash north of Port Douglas

THE pilot of a helicopter crash in the Daintree Rainforest this afternoon has survived.
It’s believed the male pilot was the only person on board the chopper when it went down in Mount Windsor National Park, 50km north-west of Port Douglas.
Emergency services discovered the wreckage of a Robinson 44 at around at 2.30pm.
Queensland Police said the the crash had caused a significant fire in bushland, with smoke helping to locate the aircraft.
A paramedic had to be lowered down to the injured man by a winch. His condition is still unknown.
