Old-fashioned burglar caught red handed

A thief was caught red handed with goods stolen from James Cook Museum in Cooktown on Saturday.


A 21-year-old found himself stuck high and dry at Cooktown on Saturday following investigations into a break and enter offence at a local museum.

It will be alleged that a Kamerunga man forced his way into the popular James Cook Museum premises on Helen Street at around 1am and stole a quantity of souvenir silverware from the museum store..


Police troopers located the man outside the building shortly after the incident and he was taken to the brig. A number of items of loot were allegedly located in his possession.

For his endeavours, he was charged with one count each of breaking and entering a premises and contravening a direction and is scheduled to appear in the Cooktown Magistrates Court on December 15.
