Council ‘working overtime’ to fix water consumption issue affecting Whyanbeel residents

WATER ISSUES

Last updated:

Douglas Shire Council workers are in the process of fixing some water issues affecting Whyanbeel residents.

THE Douglas Shire Council is working overtime to resolve a high water consumption issue in Whyanbeel just a week after announcing Level 1 water restrictions.

They were experiencing additional supply criticality concerning the Whyanbeel water storage, increased demand and water plant production.

“Council is working to resolve the issue of high water consumption in the Whyanbeel scheme as a matter of urgency,’ a Council spokesperson said.

To assist in alleviating the current situation, the supply pressure of the Whyanbeel plant will be reduced by 50 to 100 KPa to curb the demand. This may result in some property owners on elevated blocks experiencing noticeable lower water pressure.

Council is urging all residents in the Whyanbeel water area to be especially vigilant with water usage.

Local Laws will be closely monitoring compliance with Level 1 Water Restrictions over the next few weeks. Under Level 1 water restrictions, watering is only permitted between the hours of 6am – 9am and 6pm – 9pm on alternate days with a:

• Sprinkler;
• Hand-held trigger or twist nozzle;
• Irrigation system; or
• Watering can or bucket.

“Alternate days” shall mean designated days of water use.

• Properties with an odd street number may water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday;
• Properties with an even street number may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday;
• Properties without a Council-prescribed street number may water on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday;
• No watering is permitted on Monday

Further details of Level 1 restrictions can be found by visiting Council’s website or by contacting on 4099 9444.
